Transport Ministry and Selangor Government to Discuss Port Klang Road Expansion

27 SEPTEMBER: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that discussions between the Transport Ministry and the Selangor state government will soon be held regarding the expansion of roads in Port Klang. The move follows frequent reports of accidents involving lorries in the area, which have raised safety concerns.

Anwar, speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony for Westports 2 in Port Klang, acknowledged the issue, noting that accidents involving heavy vehicles have become common in the region. He emphasized that discussions with Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and the Transport Ministry are necessary to find solutions and expedite the road expansion within the government’s capabilities.

While he did not disclose the specific budget allocation for the project, Anwar assured that the review is nearing completion. As both the Prime Minister and Finance Minister, he stressed the importance of thorough consideration, particularly with the national budget set to be presented next month. Although he stopped short of confirming exact details, he expressed confidence that the expansion efforts would proceed, asking for patience until the final plans are announced as stated in NST.
