By Subaashinee Kupusamy,

3 OCTOBER: A severe storm hit the Klang Valley yesterday, toppling trees in Gombak, Petaling Jaya, and Desa Melawati. Despite significant damage to vehicles, no fatalities or injuries were reported.

The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Division Assistant Director, Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, stated that the first incident occurred at 6.10pm when a tree fell across the road leading to Sungai Pusu, Gombak. Firefighters from the Selayang Fire and Rescue Station arrived about half an hour later. Fortunately, the fallen tree only blocked the road without causing any casualties or structural damage.

Later, at 7.39pm, a 33-year-old woman had a close call in Petaling Jaya when a tree fell on her Perodua Axia near the Taman Megah LRT Station. Firefighters successfully freed her from the vehicle with no reported injuries.

Another incident occurred on the main road leading to Desa View Towers condominium in Taman Desa Melawati, where a fallen tree damaged three vehicles and obstructed traffic. The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Centre received the report at 6.34pm and dispatched nine firemen from Wangsa Maju. Firefighters, aided by Kuala Lumpur City Hall, used chainsaws to clear the scene, which was declared safe by 7.39pm.

The fire department continues to monitor the situation, ensuring swift responses to any further emergencies following the storm as stated in NST.
