Written by: Jeesvetthra Subramaniam

SHAH ALAM, 28 April 2021; The AGC has said that they have no plans to sue the two Muslim converts for insulting the non- Islamics faiths in this case. On 26th April more than 200 people were waiting outside the courthouse for the hearing. On the behalf Of AGC, Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Ainul Amirah said that AGC is reluctant to sue preacher Zamri Vinoth Kalimuthu and Multiracial Reverted Muslims founder and president Firdaus Wong Wai Hung had classified their cases as “ no further action”.

The duo assumed that they were linked to controversial preacher Zakir Naik.  The case’s plaintiff S Shashi Kumar, said that Zakir has been involved in thousands of police reports for insulting the non- Islamic faiths and their religious practices. Moreover, Ainul told magistrates that the DPP won’t get involved since the case was classified under (NFO). Shashi’s lawyer T Gunaseelan added that “ there is more than sufficient evidence “. He said that Shashi had already filed to commence private prosecution against the duo under Section 133 of the Criminal Procedure Code. ” The applicant can continue with the process as we believe we have enough proof to prosecute the pair”, said the lawyer.

Gunaseelan has said that the magistrate should find a basis for the various police reports lodged against Zamri. The magistrate’s lawyer, S Ravichandran, says charges could be against them for the posts made by Zamri on social media. The report should be filed under the Sedition Act, the Penal Code, and the Communication and Multimedia Act. Magistrate Mohamad Redza Azhar Rezali gave Gunaseelan a deadline till 10th May to submit the written submission. Redza also said he would decide on whether to grant Shashi permission for private prosecution at the next hearing, which is on 28th May.

Speaking to the press, Shashi said that, DPP’s posture made it seems as if the government set free Zamri, he will continue making such “seditious statements”. “ There are many non-Muslims who have been jailed for insulting Islam. The law should be applied to all Malaysians who have equal protection under the Federal Constitution. “There is so much evidence against Zamri and Firdaus, so we do not understand how the police can classify this as NFA.
