14 SEPTEMBER: Umaa Saraswathy Kumarasamy’s determination to pursue higher education while caring for her ailing parents is truly inspiring. Despite managing a demanding job in customer service and looking after both parents—her father bedridden and her mother suffering from mental health issues—she earned a Master’s degree in Corporate Communications from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
At 27, her dedication is a testament to her resilience, especially after the passing of her father just two months before her graduation. Attending the ceremony alone, she acknowledged the challenges but emphasized that success requires effort, perseverance, and stepping out of one’s comfort zone.
Her story reminds others that obstacles can be overcome with hard work and determination, proving that family circumstances don’t have to be barriers to personal achievements as stated in Astro Ulagam.
