UMHV Condemns Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh

Kuala Lumpur, 17th August – Ms Usha Muthusamy, the vice secretary of the United Malaysian Hindu Voice (UMHV) has released a press statement against the recent violence against the Hindu minority in Bangladesh following the removal of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The press statement was released on Aug 16, 2024.
In the press release mentioned, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership had offered support to minorities, including Hindus, who make up about 8% of Bangladesh’s population.”
” However, the political change has triggered violent attacks across 278 locations in 48 districts, leading to widespread destruction, looting, and threats that have forced many Hindus to flee.”
Despite efforts by Honorable Professor Muhammad Yunus to restore peace, the Hindu community continues to face significant threats. “The Bangladeshi government’s repeated failure to protect minorities, even after previous incidents of violence, is deeply troubling.” The absence of strong legal protections leaves the Hindu community vulnerable.
“UMHV condemns these inhumane acts and urges the Bangladeshi government to take immediate action to stop the violence, protect all citizens, and hold those responsible accountable.”
UMHV also calls on Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to show solidarity with the Hindu population in Bangladesh and to apply diplomatic pressure to end these violations.”
The ongoing persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh is a serious issue that threatens global efforts towards peace and religious freedom.” UMHV stands with all persecuted religious minorities, advocating for their right to practice their faith without fear.
