UMHV Issues Strong Statement Condemning Religious Intolerance at Thiruparankundram

Kuala Lumpur, 14th February 2025 – The United Malaysian Hindu Voice (UMHV) has released a press statement condemning the rising religious intolerance and threats to the sanctity of Thiruparankundram Murugan Temple in Tamil Nadu, India.

The press statement was released on 10th February 2025.

In the press release, UMHV stated, “Thiruparankundram, the first of the six sacred abodes of Lord Murugan, holds immense spiritual significance for Hindus worldwide. Attempts to undermine its sanctity deeply distress the Hindu community.”

UMHV strongly condemned the disruptive practice of animal sacrifice near the temple, stating, “Such acts disrespect Hindu and Jain sentiments and violate the sacredness of this holy site.”

Additionally, UMHV opposed the attempt to rename Thiruparankundram Hill to ‘Sikandar Hills,’ calling it an “erasure of the site’s historical Hindu identity and religious significance.”

The press release further raised concerns over certain groups attempting to claim the hill and disrupt Hindu worship practices, stating, “The politicization of this sacred site and efforts to incite communal tensions must be stopped immediately.”

UMHV has urged the Tamil Nadu government to take swift action to protect the sanctity of Thiruparankundram and ensure that Hindu worship continues without interference or intimidation.

“Religious freedom must not be misused to encroach upon the rights of others or desecrate sacred spaces,” UMHV emphasized.

The organization also called on all peace-loving individuals and organizations to stand against religious intolerance and ensure the preservation of Thiruparankundram’s sacred heritage for future generations.

“Thiruparankundram must remain a beacon of faith and spiritual solace for Hindus across the world,” UMHV concluded.
