KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 25: United Malaysian Hindu Voice (UMHV) has condemned a Merdeka-themed video with racist remarks.
UMHV spokesperson R. Naraeshpillai slammed those behind the video production for being insensitive by producing contents describing Indians as “gangsters” and Chinese as “drunk drivers”.
“Although the message in the video been made with a good intention to promote unity, but the delivery was insensitive.
“We are glad that the video produced by a Muslim NGO has been taken down.
Let’s promote and celebrate unity in this month,” he told The Hindu Press.
He was commenting on a Merdeka-themed public service announcement video clip featuring a Malay parent criticising Indians and Chinese in negative ways and categorising them as “gangsters” and “drunk drivers.”
Later in the video, the son shows his mother his drawing depicting a Malay, Chinese, and Indian with the Malaysian flag in the background with racial allegation under the Chinese and Indian characters.
The son was heard saying in the video that: “I wasn’t born racist, but I was trained.”
