By Agathes Kuma

Kuala Lumpur, August 27: The 30th Malam Anekaragam, an Indian cultural performance show, organised by Persatuan Kebudayaan India, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang, broke a record for the Malaysia Book of Records on 2nd July 2022. A relay of 17 different types of performances, including dance, martial arts, and musical instruments, set a record for the most multi-cultural Indian performances ever, says the Project Director of Malam Anekaragam Mr.Thanishan.

The list of performances were, Veenai, Bharathanatyam, Oyilattam, Mayilattam, Silambam, Bommalattam, Kathak, Urumi, Tappu, Urumi melam, Kolattam, Poikkal kuthirai aatam, Puli aatam, Kuthu varisai, Mohini aatam, Maan kombu and Karagattam.

Persatuan Kebudaayan India PKI Universiti Sains Malaysia has been hosting Malam Anekaragam @ Aneka for the past 30 years. The primary goals of the event are to put on a show and use the funds to aid Indian households and students. The goal of this year’s Aneka was to raise money for students who have hearing and vision problems. RM 15,430 in total revenue from the 30th MALAM ANEKARAGAM was donated to 17 Indian students, as mentioned by Mr.Thanishan.

This profit helped 17 students, giving the Indian students two pairs of hearing aids and 15 pairs of glasses. These students are B40 students from special needs and underprivileged schools in the Penang region.

“Medical problem is something that is always been ignored in B40 families due to the low income of the family. Parents should be aware that they should give importance to health just like how they prioritize their children’s education. Vision and hearing problem are something that should be diagnosed early to prevent serious complications”, says the Project Director Mr.Thanishan to Hindu Press.

When Hindu Press about the reason behind their success, the reply was, a well-thought-out plan and thorough research into the Indian cultural performances that are still performed in Malaysia. Additionally, since it is a charitable event, event sponsors provide the majority of the funding. This outstanding achievement would not have been possible without the cooperation of the crew and the individuals who genuinely supported this event, stated Mr.Thanishan.

Lastly, when Hindu Press questioned what are the advice that would you like to give to other students, Mr.Thanishan said “take a moment to respect your goal as the first step toward achieving it. Know what achieving it means to you. Give as much assistance as you can. Participate in ways that can benefit the community long term”. – Hindu Press

Congratulations and kudos to the entire team from The Hindu Press!
