‘We want explanation’, NGO sends memo to S’gor MB over temple demolition

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 15: The Hindu Temple Organization and Association Forum (HOTA) has submitted memorandum the Selangor Menteri Besar’s office seeking for an explanation over the demolition of the Agora Veeramma Kaliamman Temple in Subang.

The memorandum was handed over to Sentosa Assemblyman Dr. Gunaraj George, on Sept 13.

In a memorandum, HOTA condemned the authorities including Petaling district officer Datuk Johary Anuar, land office enforcers petaling, MBPJ enforcers and police officers for demolishing the temple.

“We could not get a reasonable explanation when contacting the Selangor state exco YB V. Ganapathy Rao.

“He stressed that he did not know about the demolition and said it was the decision of the district officer,” the memorandum, which was sighted by The Hindu Press, added.

“The action violates the right to practice freedom of religion enshrined in the Malaysian constitution.

“Everybody should respect the sentiment of other religions as well as the freedom of religious practice of others,” it added.

Meanwhile, in a Facebook post, Gunaraj said that all the stakeholders will be called for a meeting session to address this problem comprehensively.
