14th September 2024 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the formation of a working committee to combat water pollution in Malaysia.
This was decided during the National Water Council meeting held on September 13, 2024. The committee will involve key stakeholders to enhance monitoring of water quality, particularly in rivers, and to manage emerging pollutants.
Anwar emphasized strict enforcement, the need for technological advancements, and improvements in governance. The government aims to reduce non-revenue water, which is still unsatisfactory, to ensure the sustainability of the nation’s water resources, as stated in Bernama.
