YouTube Shorts Introduces New Save Feature, Phasing Out Dislike Button for Certain Users
By Pavethran Batmanathen
YouTube is currently experimenting with a new interface for Shorts, which replaces the traditional ‘Dislike’ (thumbs down) button with a ‘Save’ feature.
As reported by Android Authority, this change is being implemented for a select group of users on the Google-owned video sharing platform. Those participating in the limited test will notice that the ‘Dislike’ button has disappeared, making way for the new ‘Save’ option.
Unlike the features available to YouTube Premium users, which require individuals to opt-in, this update is being rolled out randomly across the user base. If you find yourself among those affected and wish to express dislike for a particular Short, you can do so by tapping on the three-dot menu located in the top right corner of the screen.
To save a YouTube Short, simply click the ‘Save’ button, which appears either beneath the like button or within the three-dot menu. YouTube will then prompt you to save the Short to an existing playlist or create a new one.
While this new feature simplifies the process of saving Shorts, it’s likely that many users will continue to scroll through content without taking the time to dislike it. This change may prove beneficial for creators, but it could also mean that lower-quality Shorts might be given more visibility in users’ feeds.
It’s important to note that the YouTube Shorts interface change is still in the testing phase, and it remains uncertain whether Google will implement this change universally or revert it altogether.
In a recent announcement, YouTube also revealed that creators will soon have the ability to produce Shorts with a duration of up to three minutes. Additionally, some users are experiencing a user interface update that conceals the “Skip” button on ads, replacing it with a black rectangle overlay.
