16 September: According to the deputy prime minister, the tests that were eliminated were used as a baseline to assess pupils’ educational attainment prior to their SPM exams.
The government’s educational policies, according to deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, need to be reconsidered because Year 6 and Form 3 students do not take significant exams.
According to Zahid, the now-canceled UPSR and PT3 exams functioned as a baseline for determining students’ educational attainment prior to taking the SPM exam and selecting their areas of study. He claimed to have already discussed the situation of 10,177 pupils missing their SPM last year with the ministries of education and higher education.
At the MIC’s 78th annual meeting today at the Ideal Convention Centre, he stated that reforming our education policy is imperative, as Year 6 and Form 3 students currently do not have major tests. The education government declared in April 2021 that the PT3 exam would not be held that year and that UPSR would be abolished.
In June 2022, the PT3 exam was discontinued.Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek stated in March of last year that the ministry has no intention of reverting to the old practice of evaluating students through exams. The chairman of Barisan Nasional, Zahid, countered that changing educational programs in tandem with shifts in government administrations would only hurt students.
It is not appropriate for us to experiment on students and make them the victims. According to him, every government policy about education needs to be implemented in a (uniform) manner to prevent victimization of our children.
