81-Year-Old Grandmother Receives PhD After a Decade of Dedication

22 OCTOBER: Christine Longuet, also known as Rohani Abdullah, achieved a remarkable milestone at 81 by earning her PhD in human ecology and ethnobotany from UniversitiMalaysia Terengganu. Her thesis, focused on Terengganu’s cultural evolution, was the result of ten years of perseverance despite challenges like health issues and the global pandemic. Rohani’s academic journey began in 2013, with support from her late husband and eight children.
Having previously earned degrees from Sorbonne and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Rohani has authored several books and intends to write her autobiography in multiple languages. A grandmother of 27 and great-grandmother of 14, Rohani’s lifelong passion for learning, alongside her love for Terengganu’s heritage, continues to inspire many.
Her story exemplifies dedication and determination, proving that age is no barrier to education as stated in Astro Ulagam.
