CHENNAI, 03 August 2025: The Tamil entertainment industry is mourning the loss of veteran actor and comedian Madhan Bob, who passed away at the age of 71 on Saturday evening at his residence in Adyar, Chennai. Reports confirm that the beloved artist, whose real name was S. Krishnamurthy, had been battling cancer for some time.
Madhan Bob was a versatile and cherished figure, recognized for his distinctive comic timing, unique mannerisms, and expressive facial expressions, particularly his prominent eyeballs, which he often cited as inspired by legendary actor Kaka Radhakrishnan. His career spanned over four decades, during which he graced the screen in hundreds of films, sharing space with leading actors such as Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Ajith, Vijay, and Suriya.
Among his memorable film credits are notable roles in “Vaaname Ellai,” “Thevar Magan,” “Sathi Leelavathi,” “Thenali,” “Friends,” and “Poove Unakkaaga.” Beyond Tamil cinema, he also ventured into a few Malayalam and Hindi films, showcasing his adaptability.
Beyond the silver screen, Madhan Bob achieved significant popularity on television. He was a much-loved judge on the hit Sun TV comedy show ‘Asathapovadhu Yaaru,’ where his candid judgments and hearty laughter endeared him to audiences across generations. He also appeared in numerous TV serials, further solidifying his presence in households.
Born as the eighth child in his family, Madhan Bob’s artistic journey began with music. He was a talented keyboardist and musician, often blending his musical background with his comedic performances. This unique combination left a lasting impression on audiences.
The news of his demise has led to an outpouring of condolences from fans, celebrities, and colleagues across the film fraternity. Tributes have highlighted his ability to bring joy to any set and his significant contribution to comedy and cinema. His mortal remains were kept at his Adyar residence for public homage, with cremation expected on Sunday at Besant Nagar crematorium. Madhan Bob is survived by his wife Susheela, daughter Janani, and son Archith.
