KUALA LUMPUR, 25 August 2025: More Indian students were accepted into the Education Ministry’s matriculation program this year than the allocated quota, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek announced. A total of 1,537 Indian students were offered places, exceeding the 1,116-seat quota.
The minister explained that 341 students with 10As in their SPM examinations received automatic placement. The remaining students were offered spots based on a 90% academic and 10% co-curricular merit system. The academic evaluation is based on the marks of four core subjects specific to each student’s stream, not on the number of ‘A’s they obtained. This also takes into consideration the students’ income background.
Fadhlina’s statement was a written response to a question from P. Prabakaran, Member of Parliament for Batu. He had asked for detailed statistics on the number of Indian students admitted, including top scorers and those with 6 to 9As, to determine if these students were offered the remaining seats. This positive outcome highlights the ministry’s commitment to ensuring deserving students have access to higher education opportunities.
