Aid for Flood Victims in Penang from PM Anwar

By Subaashinee Kupusamy,

24 SEPTEMBER: Following the recent flooding in Penang, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, along with the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), visited the affected areas to provide assistance. A total of 1,424 individuals were evacuated from their homes due to the heavy rains that began earlier this month. During his visit, PM Anwar distributed essential aid, including food packages and cash assistance, to families impacted by the disaster.

The government has pledged ongoing support to help victims recover and rebuild their lives. Local authorities confirmed that temporary evacuation centres were closed as floodwaters receded, allowing families to return home safely. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of immediate relief efforts and the need for long-term strategies to address the region’s vulnerability to flooding as stated in NST.
