DENMARK, 13 October 2025: Malaysian women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah enter this week’s Denmark Open prepared to challenge the supremacy of China’s elite pairs, according to former Commonwealth Games champion Vivian Hoo. The optimism stems from the Malaysian duo’s commanding performance in winning the recent Arctic Open title.
Vivian asserts that the World No. 2 pair has elevated their game and are now ready to defeat rivals like World No. 1 Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning and Olympic champions Chen Qing Chen-Jia Yi Fan. “If they give their best, I’m sure they can beat the Chinese pairs,” said Vivian. “If Pearly-Thinaah stay focused and composed like they did in the Arctic Open final, they will always have that chance.”
Pearly and Thinaah demonstrated this mental strength in the Arctic Open, fighting through a demanding 63-minute semi-final before crushing Japan’s World No. 6 Rin Iwanaga-Kie Nakanishi in a dominant final performance (21-7, 21-9).
The pair faces a challenging draw in Odense, with a potential quarter-final showdown against Chen Qing Chen-Jia Yi Fan looming. Should they advance, a possible final clash with Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning awaits a pair that defeated the Malaysians in their last three encounters, including at the recent World Championships.
The Denmark Open also features other Malaysian pairs, including World No. 19 Teoh Mei Xing-Go Pei Kee and World No. 31 Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting. Analysts believe that among the world’s top five pairs, the outcome is highly dependent on “performance on the day.”
Malaysian women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah captured the Arctic Open title, continuing their record-breaking year and winning US$37,525 (RM158,468) in prize money.
The victory marks the duo’s second title this year following their Thailand Open win in May and their sixth final appearance of the season. The achievement builds on their earlier success in August, when they became the first national women’s doubles pair to reach the BWF World Championships final, securing a silver medal.
