Anticipated Before Election Day: Anwar to Make a Final Push in Kedah

Kuala Lumpur, Aug 7: As Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional build momentum in their campaign to reclaim the state from Perikatan Nasional, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is anticipated to tour Kedah as the final phase of state election campaigning.
As a final push in their effort to seize the state from PN, Pakatan Harapan the secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said that the matter had been approved by the party’s chairman yesterday. Asmirul Anuar Aris, a candidate for PH Kubang Rotan who is seeking reelection, spoke to supporters today at Pasar Besar Alor Star. “Tentatively, the PM plans to start his journey with Friday prayers and we will have more discussions on the other programmes for the final phase of the campaign in Kedah,” he told reporters. – NST
A final effort in Alor Star and Sungai Petani before the elections will require Anwar’s presence, according to Saifuddin, who is also the Home Minister. In order to fulfill their goal of obtaining a simple majority of the votes to establish the state government, he continued, PH-BN is hopeful about winning 19 state seats in Kedah.
After a week of campaigning in Kedah, political analyst Professor Dr. Mohd Azizuddin Mohd Sani of Universiti Utara Malaysia stated there were evidence pointing to a shift in support from the PN to the PH-BN. – NST
In the elections on August 12, 36 seats will be up for grabs. For the record, Pas possessed a total of fifteen seats in the state’s assembly when it was dissolved on June 28 to make room for the 15th State Election, followed by Bersatu with 6, PKR with 5, Amanah with 4, and Umno with two seats apiece. – NST
