KUALA LUMPUR, 01 September 2025: On August 31, Malaysian mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei have etched their names in the country’s sporting history, securing the nation’s first-ever mixed doubles gold medal at the 2025 Badminton World Championships in Paris. The victory, a highlight of Malaysia’s National Day celebrations, was a testament to their exceptional teamwork and resilience.

In a commanding performance at the Adidas Arena, the world No. 4 pair defeated China’s world No. 2 duo, Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin, in straight sets with a final score of 21-15, 21-14. According to The Star, their victory was a result of their fast-attacking play and a nearly error-free game.

The triumph is particularly meaningful for the pair, who were briefly split for five months earlier this year. Their successful reunion and subsequent rise to the top of the podium highlight a sensational comeback. The Bernama article on the win quotes Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, who described the victory as a “priceless National Day gift” that would be “forever be etched in history as one of the country’s finest sporting achievements.”

The pair has credited their coach, Nova Widianto, for challenging them to have a champion’s mentality, a strategy that ultimately paid off. As reported by The Star, the win also ends China’s long-standing dominance in the mixed doubles category, which they had won ten times previously.
