Cyberbullying Complaints Surge in Malaysia

By Loshinniy Nair S. Baskaran

20th November: In Malaysia, complaints regarding cyberbullying have significantly increased, highlighting a growing concern among authorities and the public. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) reported a rise in cases, with many victims, particularly children and teenagers, facing harassment through social media platforms. The MCMC emphasized the importance of reporting such incidents to ensure proper action is taken against offenders.

Experts stress the need for comprehensive education on digital etiquette and responsible online behavior to combat this issue effectively. Schools are encouraged to implement programs that raise awareness about the dangers of cyberbullying and promote a supportive environment for victims.

The government is also considering stricter regulations to address online harassment, aiming to create safer digital spaces for all users. Parents are urged to engage in open discussions with their children about their online experiences and monitor their internet usage. As cyberbullying continues to escalate, collaborative efforts between parents, schools, and authorities are crucial in tackling this pervasive issue and protecting vulnerable individuals from online harm, as stated in The Star.
