Kuala Lumpur, June 7: The title of Selangor Sportsmen and Sportswomen for 2021–2022 was bestowed upon R. Sharmendran and M. Thinaah, as stated by Varnam Malaysia.
The two athletes each got a cash award of RM10,000, a trophy, and a certificate during the Selangor Sports Awards event held at the Perak Jubilee Hall, Sultan Abdul Shah.
It was Sharmendran’s victory in his ten-year athletic career, and he stated to press at the event that it will inspire him to accomplish more in the future.
In his Instagram post, he thanked MSN Selangor for choosing him as the best Sportsman in 2021-2022 and the Selangor State Government for their support for the state athletes. He also congratulated the Selangorian athletes who won the award and Thinaah for winning Olahragawati (Sportswoman) award along his side.
Thinaah was represented by her father, S. Muralitharan, and was not able to join since she had been training for the Singapore Open 2023 the following week.
According to M. Thinaah’s Instagram post:
“I would like to express my appreciation to the Selangor State Government & the Selangor State Sports Council @mnselangor for theSelangor Sportswoman Award 2021-2022.
Sorry for not being able to attend the Selangor State Sports Awards (ASNS) because I am currently in Singapore for the Singapore Open Championship.
Thanks also to my parents who always support & attend on my behalf at ASNS. This award means a lot to me”.
