Eight-Vehicle Collision Leaves One Woman Critically Injured

By Subaashinee Kupusamy,

1 OCTOBER: A major accident involving eight vehicles occurred at Kilometer 257 of the North-South Expressway, approximately three kilometers from the Menora Tunnel, causing severe traffic disruption. The crash involved five cars and three motorcycles. A woman, who was driving a Perodua Myvi, suffered critical injuries when her car overturned, trapping her inside. Rescue personnel had to work quickly to extricate her, and she was rushed to the hospital. Two motorcyclists sustained minor injuries, while five other victims emerged unscathed.

The incident occurred late in the evening, and 20 firefighters were deployed along with four emergency vehicles. Fire and rescue teams successfully extricated the critically injured driver, and the operation was completed by 11:49 p.m.

While authorities are investigating the cause of the collision, traffic flow in the area was severely affected for hours, causing frustration among other motorists. The stretch near the Menora Tunnel is known for its steep gradients and sharp curves, which have historically been prone to accidents.

With one individual critically injured and two suffering minor injuries, the accident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of cautious driving, especially on roads known for dangerous conditions. Emergency services have urged drivers to remain vigilant when traversing this section of the highway.

The authorities are expected to release more information as investigations continue. The rescue operations and subsequent traffic management were handled efficiently, though the accident caused significant delays for travellers in the area as stated in BULETIN TV3.
