3 OCTOBER: A fisherman, K. Kesavan Ramakrishnan, 60, is feared missing after reportedly falling from a boat in the waters off Batu Laut on Monday night (Sept 30). The incident was confirmed by Selangor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director Maritime Captain Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh, who stated that the search and rescue (SAR) operation was promptly initiated following a report from the Kuala Langat Area Fishermen’s Association.
According to the report, Kesavan was out at sea with a friend on a Class A boat, wearing a red and white striped shirt and dark shorts. The accident is believed to have occurred when a metal piece near the boat’s rudder broke, causing Kesavan to fall into the water.
The Johor Baru Maritime Rescue Sub-Centre (MRSC) quickly activated the SAR operation, while the Selangor MMEA set up the Carilamat Forward Base (PHC) at Rumah Peranginan Persekutuan Morib to coordinate the search efforts at the site.
The operation, led by the MMEA, is being carried out in cooperation with the Marine Police Force (PPM), Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Civil Defense Force (APM), Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL), the PANTAS Squad, and local fishing boats. The search continues as authorities strive to locate the missing fisherman as stated in NST.
