20 October: A 23-year-old man was arrested with approximately RM11,000 worth of frozen chicken, suspected to have been smuggled from Thailand, in an operation by the General Operations Force (GOF) yesterday.
The Southeast Brigade commander, Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid, revealed that the suspect was apprehended at Cabang 3 Tok Deh around 8am, when GOF personnel stopped his vehicle, a Perodua Myvi, for inspection. Upon checking the car, they discovered several boxes filled with frozen chicken.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the frozen chicken had been smuggled into the country through illegal jetties along the border with Thailand. The suspect, along with the seized goods, was handed over to the Rantau Panjang police for further investigation and action.
In a separate incident, four illegal immigrants were detained at a bus station in Tasek Raja, Pasir Mas, late last night. According to Datuk Nik Ros Azhan, the men, all from Myanmar, were apprehended at around 11:30pm after being found without valid travel documents.
Authorities believe the four men had crossed into Kelantan from Thailand just a few hours before their arrest. The group has since been handed over to the Pasir Mas police for further processing and investigation.
These arrests highlight the ongoing efforts by Malaysian authorities to combat cross-border smuggling and illegal immigration, particularly along the porous border areas in Kelantan. Efforts are being intensified to curb these illegal activities, which continue to pose a challenge to law enforcement agencies in the region as stated in NST.
