Floods Intensify in Kedah: Six New Relief Centres Established

19 SEPTEMBER: As flooding conditions worsen across Kedah, six new temporary relief centres have been set up, increasing the total number of operational flood evacuation centres to 28. These centres are currently accommodating 3,477 individuals from 986 families, according to the Social Welfare Department’s Disaster Info mobile app.
Kota Setar is the most severely affected area, with eight centres providing refuge to 1,215 victims from 174 families. In Kubang Pasu, seven centres are housing 704 people from 214 families, while three centres in Pokok Sena are supporting 794 flood victims from 216 families.
Pendang has three centres caring for 429 individuals from 108 families, and Kulim’s three centres are sheltering 86 victims from 26 families. Kuala Muda also has three centres, offering refuge to 131 people from 50 families.
As of this morning, seven out of nine rivers in Kedah have surpassed the danger levels, highlighting the escalating severity of the situation. Efforts are ongoing to manage and mitigate the impact of the floods on affected communities as stated in NST.
