How a Bluetooth Device Led to the Arrest of Kolkata Doctor Murder Suspect

KOLKATA, 16 August: In the harrowing case of the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at Kolkata’s R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital, a seemingly inconspicuous Bluetooth earphone played a pivotal role in the police investigation. The suspect, Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer with a history of violent behavior, was apprehended thanks to this crucial piece of evidence.
On August 9, the lifeless body of the trainee doctor was discovered at the medical college. The crime is believed to have occurred between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. that morning. Following a swift and intensive investigation, Roy was arrested on August 10. The breakthrough in the case came when police discovered a Bluetooth earphone near the crime scene that was linked to Roy.
The police identified Roy through the earphone’s connection to his mobile phone, which also contained disturbing and violent pornographic material. This discovery corroborated other evidence and pointed directly to Roy. During questioning, Roy admitted his involvement in the crime, but showed no remorse, even telling police, “Hang me if you want.”
Roy, a 33-year-old civic volunteer who joined the Kolkata police in 2019, had a troubling history. Known as a ‘womanizer’ with multiple marriages and a background of physically abusing his wives, he was also a trained boxer. Despite his connections with senior police officers, which facilitated his placement at the medical college, Roy’s past behavior and the evidence uncovered led to his arrest.
The case has sparked outrage and protests among the public, highlighting the effectiveness of seemingly minor details, like the Bluetooth earphone, in solving serious crimes as stated in The Economic Times.
