MALAYSIA, 31 July 2025: In a significant display of national spirit, McDonald’s Malaysia is actively participating in the 2025 Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) convoy, marking its commitment to Malaysia’s National Month celebrations. The fast-food giant has earmarked 15 of its restaurants across the country as designated stopover points for the patriotic motorcycle convoy.
The KMJG convoy, an initiative spearheaded by the Communications Ministry, commenced on Sunday, July 27, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim flagging off the event in Muar, Johor. The convoy’s route includes 88 selected locations nationwide, aiming to ignite and enhance the spirit of the ‘Jalur Gemilang’ (Malaysian flag) and bring joy to communities across Malaysia.
Melati Abdul Hai, McDonald’s Malaysia’s senior vice-president and chief impact officer, emphasized the company’s dedication to this national endeavor. Speaking at the KMJG program held at the Batu Berendam McDonald’s Restaurant in Melaka, she stated, “As a brand that has grown together with the people of Malaysia for the past 43 years, we believe that the National Day celebration is a pivotal moment for us to be united, celebrate diversity and express our love for the country.” She added that McDonald’s Malaysia aims to play a larger role as a local company, transforming its restaurants into hubs where Malaysians can strengthen their sense of patriotism and togetherness.
The first McDonald’s stopover for the convoy was in Kluang, Johor, on Monday, July 28. The convoy then made its second stop at the Batu Berendam McDonald’s, before heading towards its final destination at the Pantai Sentral Park McDonald’s Drive-Thru in Kuala Lumpur on August 16.
Throughout the convoy’s journey, the selected McDonald’s restaurants will host various independence-themed activities. These include the distribution of free Jalur Gemilang flags, special Merdeka edition drive-thru stickers, food vouchers, and interactive engagements for families.
Beyond the convoy, McDonald’s Malaysia has further patriotic initiatives planned. These include an ‘Ambang Merdeka’ celebration at the Putrajaya Precinct 2 McDonald’s Drive-Thru from August 29-31. The company will also be a part of the 2025 National Day parade at Dataran Putrajaya, where they will distribute 50,000 free food vouchers and 2,500 limited-edition ‘Mekdi’-themed prizes to attendees. As a gesture of appreciation for their service, McDonald’s Malaysia is also offering free meals to all uniformed personnel across its 370+ restaurants nationwide throughout July and August.
