28 JANUARY: The Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA) has opened applications for the 2024–2025 EC-Council Cybersecurity Professional Certification Program. This initiative aims to address the IT and cybersecurity talent shortage while reducing unemployment in the industry.

The program, announced by P. Prabakaran, chairman of the MITRA Special Task Force, is tailored exclusively for Indian graduates with IT bachelor’s or diploma degrees. It offers a fully sponsored four-month training program for 200 participants, including employment placement opportunities and a living allowance. “A lack of pertinent skills prevents many local IT graduates from pursuing careers in cybersecurity. This initiative fills that gap,” Prabakaran explained during a press conference.

Organized in collaboration with Intellize Tech Services Sdn Bhd and the EC-Council, a leading global cybersecurity certification body, the program provides industry-recognized qualifications such as Certified Security Specialist, Certified Network Defender, and Certified Ethical Hacker. These certifications, valued at approximately RM17,000, equip participants with in-demand technical skills. Additionally, soft skills training, including resume writing and professional etiquette, ensures that graduates are workforce-ready.

Participants are required to sign a commitment contract with Intellize Tech Services, and those who fail to complete the program must reimburse the costs. Each training phase accommodates 25 participants, with the first batch of 50 scheduled to begin in February 2025.

This program provides a significant opportunity for Indian graduates to enhance their employability, secure jobs in the rapidly growing cybersecurity industry, and contribute to closing the talent gap. MITRA’s efforts highlight its dedication to empowering the Indian community and fostering long-term professional growth in IT.
