M’sia to move from COVID-19 pandemic to endemic in Oct – KJ
PUTRAJAYA, Sept 1: Newly-minted Health Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar said that Malaysia is expected to move from COVID-19 pandemic into the endemic phase by the end of October.
According to Bernama, Khairy said this move was in line with the government’s target to ensure at least 80 per cent of the adult population in the country is fully vaccinated by then.
However, he said even though the country has managed to control the coronavirus, the community needs to accept the fact to “live with the virus”.
“If you look at the cases in Labuan and, to a lesser extent, Sarawak, they are already in an endemic phase.
“I can say that by the end of October, we will reach the endemic phase where we start living with the virus,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama at his first press conference on the development of the COVID-19 here today.
