By Loshinniy Nair S. Baskaran,

23rd October: Almost two million students in Malaysia have successfully redeemed their book vouchers, a significant initiative aimed at supporting educational resources. The Ministry of Education reported that approximately 1.9 million students have taken advantage of this program, which allows them to purchase essential learning materials.

The book voucher program, introduced by the government, is designed to alleviate financial burdens on families and encourage reading among students. Each eligible student receives a voucher worth RM150, which can be used at participating bookstores nationwide. This initiative not only promotes literacy but also stimulates the local book industry.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek emphasized the importance of this program in enhancing students’ access to educational resources. She noted that the vouchers are particularly beneficial for those from low-income families, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to acquire necessary books and materials for their studies.

The positive response to the program reflects its effectiveness in reaching students across various backgrounds. The Ministry continues to encourage participation and has urged parents to ensure their children utilize these vouchers before the redemption period ends.

Overall, the success of this initiative highlights the government’s commitment to improving educational access and fostering a culture of reading among Malaysian youth, as stated in The Star.
