KUALA LUMPUR, 11 July 2025: A new syllabus guidebook for the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) Tamil Language (Code 912) has officially been launched, marking a significant educational initiative set to benefit thousands of students nationwide. Developed by the International Association for Tamil Research (IATR) Malaysia, the guidebook will be distributed annually at no cost, with an initial batch reaching 700 students preparing for the examination.
Deputy National Unity Minister YB Senator K. Saraswathy, who officiated the launch ceremony recently, confirmed that the comprehensive guidebook covers the syllabus for all three semesters. It was meticulously developed by a team of experts, including university professors and experienced Form Six educators. The free distribution will prioritize students across the country who lack access to a dedicated Tamil language teacher, ensuring equitable educational support.
Minister Saraswathy highlighted that this initiative continues the government’s commitment to expanding reference materials for the Tamil subject and directly addresses the existing shortage of Tamil language educators. She noted that a similar guidebook was previously published by the Ministry of Education (MOE) in 2018 to support students in need. The guidebook, not yet available commercially, is a direct outcome of IATR’s proactive efforts.
YB Senator Saraswathy expressed confidence that the resource would prove invaluable for students and urged schools to actively integrate it into their STPM preparation programs. This collaborative endeavor between IATR and government bodies represents a meaningful stride towards enhancing the quality and accessibility of Tamil language education at the pre-university level, ensuring students, especially those in underserved areas, are better equipped for academic success
