Netherlands Secure Olympic Hockey Double with Women’s Gold

By Loshinniy Nair S.Baskaran,

Paris, 10th August 2024 – The Netherlands women’s hockey team won the gold medal at the Paris Olympics, defeating Germany 3-0. With this victory, the Dutch team completed a rare Olympic double, as their men’s team had also won gold earlier in the tournament.

The women’s final saw the Netherlands dominate, with goals from Frederique Matla, Laurien Leurink, and Yibbi Jansen.

This victory marks the fifth Olympic gold for the Netherlands women’s team, further solidifying their reputation as one of the strongest hockey teams in the world.

They have now won three consecutive Olympic gold medals, having previously claimed the top spot in London 2012 and Tokyo 2020. Germany, despite a strong tournament, couldn’t break through the solid Dutch defense and had to settle for the silver medal. This was their first appearance in an Olympic final since 2004.

The Netherlands’ success at the Paris Games highlights their dominance in international hockey, with both their men’s and women’s teams standing at the top of the podium.

The Dutch teams have consistently been among the best, and this Olympic double victory only adds to their impressive record.

The next challenge for these champions will be to maintain their top positions in future tournaments and continue their legacy of excellence in the sport, as stated in FMT.
