By Loshinniy Nair Baskaran,
Kuala Lumpur, 10th May – Parasuraman Jayanthi, also known as Archayatiri, is a significant festival celebrated by the Tamil community in India and around the world. It honors the birth anniversary of Lord Parasurama, the sixth avatar of the Hindu god Vishnu. The festival typically falls in the Tamil month of Vaigasi, which usually corresponds to May or June in the Gregorian calendar.
During Parasuraman Jayanthi, devotees perform various rituals and ceremonies to pay homage to Lord Parasurama. They visit temples dedicated to him, offer prayers, and participate in processions. Special poojas (religious rituals) are conducted, and devotees often fast as a form of penance.
One of the highlights of the festival is the Archayatiri, where priests and devotees engage in the recitation of sacred texts and hymns, accompanied by rituals and offerings. The atmosphere is filled with devotion and reverence as people come together to celebrate the divine presence of Lord Parasurama.
Parasuraman Jayanthi is not only a religious observance but also a time for community gatherings, cultural performances, and sharing of meals among friends and family. It symbolizes unity, faith, and the eternal connection between humanity and the divine.
