GEORGE TOWN, 29 August 2025: The Penang Hindu Endowments Board (PHEB) has reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence within the Hindu community by honouring top scorers of the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) 2024 examinations. The recognition ceremony, held on August 23 at the Komtar Auditorium, celebrated the hard work and dedication of students who achieved a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.5 and above.

The event served as both a celebration of academic achievement and a platform for providing essential financial support. In addition to a recognition award, students with a CGPA of 3.5 and higher received an educational grant of RM 500 each. The pinnacle of the awards went to the three highest achievers who scored a perfect 4.0 CGPA; they were each presented with a trophy and a special cash prize of RM 1,500. Educational aid was also distributed to other students pursuing diplomas and degrees at Institutions of Higher Learning (IPTA).

The ceremony, however, also brought attention to ongoing challenges within the national education system. A speaker at the event highlighted the persistent issue of the quota system in public universities, which continues to limit the entry of non-Bumiputra students. The speaker noted that in a previous year, only a small percentage of eligible non-Bumiputra students were admitted, emphasizing the need for continued support and advocacy to ensure equitable educational opportunities for all.

This recognition ceremony is part of the PHEB’s broader mission to uplift the community by fostering educational growth and providing targeted assistance. By investing in the academic futures of these students, the Board aims to create a path for success, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to society and secure their future. The event underscored the importance of community-led initiatives in supplementing government efforts and addressing the unique needs of different demographics.
