22 SEPTEMBER: The Royal Malaysian Police’s General Operations Force (PGA) recently made a significant bust in Tumpat, where they confiscated smuggled cigarettes valued at more than RM200,000.
The operation, which took place near the Malaysia-Thailand border, involved the discovery of approximately 65,000 cigarette cartons hidden in a vehicle. This seizure highlights ongoing efforts to combat the illegal tobacco trade in the region.
According to a spokesperson, the PGA’s proactive measures were prompted by intelligence reports regarding smuggling activities in the area. Upon stopping the vehicle, officers found the contraband concealed inside, leading to the arrest of two suspects believed to be involved in the smuggling operation.
The authorities are now conducting further investigations to uncover additional connections and individuals involved in this illegal trade. This operation underscores the commitment of the PGA to enhance border security and combat smuggling.
With such significant seizures, they aim to deter future smuggling attempts and protect public health by reducing the availability of illegal tobacco products.
The PGA continues to encourage the public to report any suspicious activities that may contribute to smuggling in their communities as stated in Buletin TV3.
