PM Anwar Calls for Stronger Islamic and Halal Industry Ties with Russia

5th September 2024 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has advocated for deeper collaboration between Malaysia and Russia in the Islamic banking and halal industry sectors. During a meeting with Deputy Mufti Rushan Hazrat Abbyasov in Vladivostok, Anwar highlighted Malaysia’s expertise in these fields, emphasizing the mutual benefits of such partnerships. The discussions also covered areas such as training, capacity building, and exchanges with institutions like the International Islamic University and Bank Negara Malaysia.
Anwar is attending the 9th Eastern Economic Forum and is set to address the plenary session, focusing on further strengthening Malaysia-Russia relations. He emphasized the shared values between the two nations and noted that Russia, with over 25 million Muslims, presents opportunities for expanding ties in the Islamic economy.
The prime minister also stressed the importance of moral and ethical education as societies advance. He reflected on the strong connections between Muslim communities, emphasizing the potential for collaboration in building a better future for the Ummah. Anwar’s visit to Russia marks his first since taking office in 2022, as stated in Malaymail.
