5th September 2024 – A deaf e-hailing driver, Ong Ing Keong, and Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) are set to submit a protest memorandum to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
The move follows an alleged assault on Ong by a police officer on May 28, during Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim’s escort. LFL’s statement highlights the injustice faced by Ong, stressing the need for accountability. They also plan to submit dashcam footage as evidence.
The case brings attention to police conduct and the treatment of vulnerable communities, as stated in Malaysia Kini.
