Police Seize Over RM2.83 Million Worth of Drugs in Johor
By Subaashinee Kupusamy,
21st October: Police in Johor Bahru have arrested three individuals, including a couple, linked to a drug trafficking syndicate operating in the region. During the operation, authorities seized various types of drugs, including 16.345 kg of ecstasy powder, ketamine, and syabu, alongside drug-laced vape cartridges. The total street value of the confiscated drugs exceeds RM2.83 million. The syndicate, which had been packaging drugs in local apartments, was preparing to distribute them across the region.
The arrests were made following a detailed investigation by the Johor Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department. Apart from the drugs, the police also seized a vehicle and a significant amount of cash, believed to be linked to the trafficking activities. The suspects, aged between 27 and 44, have been identified as local residents. Initial tests revealed that all three tested positive for methamphetamine use, suggesting that the suspects were also drug users.
Authorities believe the syndicate was responsible for distributing these substances locally, likely through various networks. Their modus operandi involved concealing the drugs in residential units, making it harder for authorities to trace the operations.
The police are continuing their investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, a section that carries the death penalty upon conviction. Authorities are also examining possible connections to larger drug networks operating within and beyond Johor. This operation marks a significant success for law enforcement, as they continue to clamp down on illegal drug activities in Malaysia.
The suspects remain in custody, and further charges are expected as the investigation unfolds. This seizure highlights ongoing efforts by Malaysian authorities to combat the nation’s growing drug problem as stated in BULETIN TV3.
