Prestigious King’s scholarship recipient-Mogesh

Kuala Lumpur-March 15 , Mr Mogesh received The King’s scholarship (Biasiswa Yang Di-Pertuan Agong) . The most prestigious scholarship in Malaysia conferred by His Majesty the King of Malaysian himself. It is awarded to masters and doctorate candidates with outstanding academic and co-curricular standing.
Mogesh graduated with a first-class bachelor’s degree in marine biology from University Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) and received the Dean’s award for all 6 semesters of his study and the Royal Education Award in the last convocation ceremony. “I was then offered a fast-track PhD at University Putra Malaysia (UPM) where I am currently pursuing a doctorate degree in Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering (Stem Cell)”,he mentioned.”I am currently working on a research which mostly revolves around evaluating the efficacy of stem cells for lung diseases”, he added.
Additionally, he is also the Co-founder of ‘Project Ocean Hope’, a youth-led group that aims to raise the visibility of ocean issues and environmental conservation through campaigns and youth leadership training. The group has also run educational community projects to reduce littering and unsustainable fishing practices, and an ocean literacy webinar series on waste management, reaching over 10,000 individuals across 15 countries.
Last September, Mogesh was among 400 climate advocates from around the world to be selected to represent the country at the Pre-COP26 Youth4Climate Summit at Milan, Italy. In addition, he had also received several prestigious awards as recognition for my commitment to protecting the ocean and the environment, namely the Jane Goodall’s Roots and Shoots Award 2020, the Diana Award 2021, Pingat Tunku Award 2021 and earlier last year as the only Malaysian to be named as the finalist of the Commonwealth Youth Awards.
Determination and perseverance serves as the key of success, he told Hindu Press. He also expressed gratitude to his research supervisor, Dr. Nur Fazila Saulol Hamid, my alma mater Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) and my former lecturers, teachers, mentors, friends, family, and colleagues for all the support and guidance.
