Public Concern Spurs Tourism Ministry to Address Hotel Check-In Policy

By Subaashinee Kupusamy,

28 SEPTEMBER: The Malaysian Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC) has responded to widespread public frustration regarding recent changes to hotel check-in and check-out times.

Many hotels have adjusted their check-in from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and moved check-out earlier to 11:00 AM, which has sparked complaints on social media. Critics argue that this discourages domestic travel, pushing locals to choose international destinations like Thailand.

MOTAC has acknowledged the feedback and is closely monitoring the situation, encouraging travellers to review hotel policies carefully. The ministry also provided an official email for further public input.

These policy changes have surfaced as domestic tourism faces growing competition from neighbouring countries, with nearly 100,000 Malaysians recently traveling to Southern Thailand during the Malaysia Day weekend as stated in Astro Ulagam.
