The Hema Committee report, which exposed disturbing allegations of sexual assault, set off a firestorm in the Malayalam cinema industry. Several well-known actors and directors have been the target of sexual assault-related FIRs, rocking the business to its foundation.
Actress Radhika Sarathkumar recently made a startling discovery that revealed serious problems in the Malayalam cinema industry. In an interview with a Malayalam news channel, she said that it was purportedly the intention of the actresses to shoot sexual material using hidden cameras in their caravans. It is stated that these tapes were kept in file folders labeled with the names of the actresses and then distributed to guys who worked in the business.
Radhika expressed her happiness at the publication of the Hema Committee report and noted that in her forty years of work, she had encountered similar situations. She said that “of course, people have misbehaved with me,” underscoring the fact that improper behavior is still a major problem in the field. She emphasized how crucial it is for women to set limits, but she also bemoaned the lack of support from males in the field, which leaves women to handle these issues on their own.
Radhika has generally refrained from naming specific individuals involved in issues, acknowledging the personal risks associated with speaking up. She pointed out that these alarming occurrences happen in all film industries, not just the Malayalam one.
Recently, a young man reported that filmmaker Ranjith had harassed him sexually. As a result, the Kasaba Police filed a case against the director. It is the first time a guy has filed a complaint of this nature in the Malayalam film business following the #MeToo movement. The case concerns allegations of unnatural sexual assaults. Actors who are women are accusing Ranjith and other prominent members of the industry of sexual harassment.
