Spotify users in the United States experienced significant difficulties accessing their playlists and streaming new music for over three hours on Sunday. Although the platform has since resumed normal operations, this prolonged outage in one of its largest markets raises concerns for Spotify, especially as it aims to boost its paid subscriber base to compete more effectively with Apple Music in the region.
According to data from Downdetector.com, the outage impacted more than 40,000 users, which poses a substantial challenge for any technology company in terms of swiftly addressing and resolving such issues.
During the three-hour disruption, Spotify users found themselves unable to stream new content or even access their personal playlists. The only music available was from their recently played tracks, and even that option was plagued with problems.
While outages like this can occur from time to time, it’s essential for the platform to investigate the underlying causes of the downtime and implement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. Interestingly, the outage did not appear to affect users in India, as confirmed by reports on the Downdetector platform.
