Spotify has introduced a new feature called Offline Backup, designed to keep users connected to their music even when they lose internet access. While many are already familiar with the platform’s download option for offline listening, this new feature takes things a step further by operating automatically.

Currently, users need to manually select which songs, albums, or podcasts they want to download for offline access. However, with Offline Backup, the process is hands-free. As soon as the app detects that the user is offline, a playlist will automatically appear in the Home feed.

This feature pulls from tracks that are already cached on your device during regular streaming sessions. To take advantage of it, users must have listened to at least five songs recently, as those tracks will be used to build the offline playlist. Additionally, Offline Backup needs to be enabled in the app’s Data Saving settings. Spotify has assured users that the playlist will be frequently refreshed with new tracks as they continue streaming.

Having been tested by users last year, Offline Backup is now being rolled out globally. It will be accessible through the latest update on both iOS and Android devices, but it’s worth noting that the feature is exclusive to Spotify Premium subscribers.
