Studies First, Phone Later Says 12A+ SPM Scorer M.Laxmann

JOHOR BARU, 25 June: Having a phone can wait, studies come first for this teen named M.Laxmann who decided against owning the device until he completed his secondary schooling.
The 18-year-old gentleman shared that his parents suggested waiting until after SPM to get a phone, and he agreed with their advice. He felt that having a phone was not an urgent necessity, and as a result, he does not have any social media accounts.
Laxmann’s lengthy wait is over now that he has received Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results from two weeks ago.
And to top it all off, he received a 12A+. He was therefore one of Johor’s top 2022 SPM achievers.
“When we have our eyes glued to social media, time can fly by very quickly without us realising it, and I don’t want that to happen to me,” said Laxmann, who enrolled in Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar.
Despite being the only one in class without a phone, the eldest of three siblings said he did not feel left out and was still aware of what was going on around him.
He also stated that he would sometimes borrow his friends’ or parents’ phones to browse social media for popular topics, but he was mindful of not overdoing it. He also had considered allowing himself to play online games, but with certain limitations in place as he wanted to prioritise his focus on the SPM.
“When classes were conducted online during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, I used a laptop at home for my studies,” he explained.
Laxmann, who wants to pursue engineering or artificial intelligence, also shared his own little study practise.
For the time being, the teenager is content with having a phone. And he has begun to download certain social networking apps, though he is attempting to avoid becoming too engrossed with them as stated in The Star.
