In a heartbreaking turn of events, actor Kalabhavan Niju, aged 43, passed away on June 12, 2025, after suffering a heart attack while shooting for Kantara 2 in Bengaluru. The incident occurred at a homestay arranged for junior artists, where Niju complained of severe chest pain and was rushed to a nearby hospital, but could not be revived.
Known for his roles in Malikappuram and Marco, Niju was a respected figure in the Malayalam film industry, particularly for his work in mimicry. His untimely demise adds to a series of tragic events associated with the Kantara franchise. Earlier this year, junior artist MF Kapil drowned during a personal trip near the film’s shooting location in Kollur, Karnataka. Additionally, actor Rakesh Poojary died of a heart attack at a wedding, just days after Kapil’s passing.
The production team of Kantara 2 has expressed deep condolences over Niju’s death, acknowledging the profound impact on the cast and crew. The film, directed by Rishab Shetty, is a prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara and is scheduled for release on October 2, 2025.
As the team grapples with these losses, the industry and fans alike mourn the passing of a talented artist whose contributions will be remembered.
