GERIK, 9 June 2025: A tragic bus crash in Gerik, Perak, has left Malaysia in mourning after 15 people, including university students, lost their lives early this morning.
Wan Nur Suhaila, a 22-year-old literature student from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), was among the victims. The night before the accident, she lovingly cooked mee celup, a noodle dish, for her family as they gathered to celebrate Aidiladha. Her brother, Wan Muhammad Sham, shared how no one expected it would be their last meal together.
The accident happened when a bus carrying UPSI students collided with another vehicle on the East-West Highway near Tasik Banding. Survivors described terrifying moments as the bus sped down a hill, started to smell of burning, and lost control.
Nur Irdina Huri, another UPSI student, managed to escape through a small hole in the bus but suffered injuries. She recalled the chaos and darkness, unable to help her friends.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash. Families and the UPSI community are grieving the sudden loss of their loved ones, remembering their dreams and kindness, as stated in Malay Mail.
