PETALING JAYA, 17 September 2025: The Malaysian government is calling on an estimated 100,000 goods and public transport companies to immediately register for a new RON95 petrol subsidy programme, with a low number of initial applicants raising concerns. The initiative, known as the Subsidised Petrol Control System (SKPS), aims to alleviate the financial burden on essential transport sectors, ultimately benefiting consumers across the nation.
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali revealed that a mere 335 vehicles from 154 companies have completed the registration process since it opened on Monday. He stressed the importance of a high sign-up rate to ensure the subsidy’s benefits are realised. The estimate of 100,000 eligible vehicles was reached through an integration of data between the SKPS and the Road Transport Department (JPJ).
The minister, a Member of Parliament for Papar, made the announcement following a visit to a temporary evacuation centre in Kinarut, underscoring the government’s commitment to implementing targeted financial assistance. He highlighted that while there is no official deadline for registration, companies should act swiftly to access the subsidies from the first day of implementation.
To participate, eligible companies must first register via the designated SKPS link and subsequently apply for a Fleet Card from one of three specified petrol companies. The government is confident this system will help control costs and ensure the targeted support reaches those who need it most, thereby providing a positive ripple effect throughout the economy. The measure is a strategic step towards a more rationalised and efficient subsidy system for Malaysia.
