“Vijay and Venkat Prabhu’s ‘GOAT’ Day 1 Worldwide Box Office Collection Revealed”

Vijay’s much-anticipated film, The Greatest of All Time (also known as GOAT), hit theatres on Thursday and, as predicted, has emerged as the biggest Tamil opener of the year. The film’s producers revealed that GOAT, Vijay’s second-last project before his anticipated political debut, amassed an impressive Rs 126.3 crore in worldwide gross earnings on its first day.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the movie raked in an estimated Rs 43 crore nett in India. Released in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi, GOAT attracted strong audience turnout, especially in Chennai, where theatres saw high occupancy.
The film also surpassed the opening day earnings of Indian 2, which grossed Rs 25.6 crore. However, GOAT fell short of topping the opening day collections of Vijay’s previous blockbuster, Leo, one of 2023’s biggest hits, which netted Rs 63 crore on its first day.
The Tamil version of GOAT achieved an impressive overall occupancy rate of 76.23 percent. In Chennai alone, the film was showcased in 1003 screenings and experienced an extraordinary 99 percent occupancy. In Bengaluru, where GOAT had 1140 shows, the occupancy was notably lower, recorded at 60 percent.
Earlier reports speculated that the film might surpass Rs 100 crore worldwide on its opening day, although the official global earnings are still awaited. A report from Pinkvilla revealed that the film’s gross domestic earnings stand at Rs 55 crore.
Just one day before its release, the film received approval in Tamil Nadu for 9 am showings, allowing it to have a total of five screenings throughout the day, with the final show concluding around 2 am. However, the filmmakers were granted permission for this special schedule for only a single day, and the same allowances will not be granted for the upcoming weekend.
