Visually Impaired Yak Fang Ling Graduates from UNIMAS with Honors

8th NOVEMBER: Yak Fang Ling, born blind, recently graduated with honors in Counselling from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), driven by her desire to give back to society. Raised in Selangau, she overcame immense educational challenges, beginning formal education only in Primary 5 due to a lack of local facilities for visually impaired students.

Yak faced obstacles throughout her studies, including limited access to study materials and challenges navigating her campus. Despite these, her dedication and support from friends and lecturers helped her excel. Reflecting on her achievements, Yak encourages others to persist through adversity, emphasizing that success comes from doing one’s best for loved ones.

Her accomplishments, from excelling in school exams to receiving a Special Needs award, have inspired many. Yak’s goal now includes exploring opportunities in teaching and furthering her studies, a testament to her resilience and determination as stated in Astro Ulagam.
