SHAH ALAM, 7 June 2025: The Works Ministry has announced a plan to upgrade 121 overcrowded schools in Malaysia, with a total budget of RM88 million. This project aims to address the issue of overcrowding in schools, creating a more comfortable learning environment for all students.

Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan stated that the majority of the schools are located in Selangor, which will receive 111 upgraded classrooms. Other states included in the plan are Perak (seven schools), Pahang (four), Negeri Sembilan (three), and one school each in Terengganu and Penang.

The new classrooms will be constructed using the Industrialised Building System (IBS), which allows for faster construction and ensures higher quality. The project comprises 117 standard classrooms and 10 special classrooms under the Integrated Special Education Program (PPKI). All construction is expected to be completed by October 2025.

Contractors for the project were selected through an open tender process, and 14 district engineers will oversee the work. This upgrade initiative is part of the Education Ministry’s broader plan to transition all schools to a single-session system by 2030, ultimately fostering a better learning environment, as reported by The Star.
